Choosing stainless steel for my DIY sump filter

I'm in the process of creating a custom sump filter for my new marine setup and came across stainless steel mesh options in both 304 and 316 grades. The 304 is more affordable, but I'm curious if the enhanced corrosion resistance of the 316 is worth the investment for long-term use. I'd appreciate any advice you have

If its for saltwater, 316 is worth it, it holds up much better against corrosion and will save you headaches longterm. 304 is fine for freshwater or low-salinity, but in a marine setup it'll start pitting and staining sooner. For peace of mind, i'd spend the extra on 316
