Running filter in winter

I'm already started with the pond and you could say I'm about half way there, but there's some mixed opinions about the filter. With winter coming in a few months, should I keep the filter on throughout the winter or shut everything down over the freezing months?

If your pond isn't totally frozen in the winter, keep the filter going. By keeping the water moving, it helps the good bacteria in your filter survive, use a pond heater or de-icer.
